is getting an online doctoral degree beneficial?
I am considering attending online Doctorate of Social Work program. My future goal is to be able to teach within higher education. I was wondering about the job aspect and how well an online degree would hold when applying for jobs after the online program is completed.

As long as it is a known program from a legitimate university it should be no problem. I know of two people who completed their PhD’s while teaching university in other countries.
With few exceptions, “Online doctorates” get no respect.
