legitimate online graduate schools?

I’m looking for legitimate, accredited business graduate schools for my online degree. Any ideas?

How do I find out what I love to do?

Lately, I’ve been having problems sitting at my desk where I’m expected to work away toward infinity. There is no sense of completion. I work as a government auditor dealing with business owner accounts and records. It seems that they expect me to sit there and work all day with no time to walk outside and breathe some fresh air, other than my lunch and two twenty minute breaks. I feel caged and jailed; my spirit seems to be draining away ever so slowly.

I obtained a degree in Accounting (along with some student loan debt). I’m 23 years old and make around 50K a year. I’m not sure that I like Accounting, though I don’t and never have worked in a pure Accounting field. The job I have right now, I took, because it was the first one to come along.

I can tell you that the parts of this job that I loved to do was “public service”. I really enjoyed helping people fill out their tax forms, helping them navigate through the online filing process, and etc.

I also loved visiting the business location since it allowed me to get out of the office and explore. I would list out all of my locations in the morning and find that I had 40 business locations to find. That was COOL!

But the parts of this job I can’t stand is when they expect me to process 100+ accounts a day, find correspondence (faxes from the public) to work. I need to be up and moving and/or talking.

I dream of living as a professor. Going to college every day, teaching a few courses, walking the campus when I feel like it. All away from the negativity of the real world.

But what causes me anxiety is the question. Do I love Accounting? Do I love it enough to get a PhD in it? I could easily get a Masters of Accounting (which I plan to do). I sometimes wonder should I try and go a different route in a PhD program (such as Operations Management, Econometrics, Finance). Even then, I fear the possibility of me not liking those topics. Do you have to love the subject to get a PhD in it?

Plain and simple, I just want to be happy. I don’t want to work into infinity anymore. I want time for myself. I want to make money. I want to help people. I want to be liked. I don’t want to suffer mediocrity. The happiest time of my life was at college.

What should I do? What would you do?

What field should I get my MBA in?

Hello,

I am looking at a couple of local schools here in Phoenix Arizona to get my MBA. I do not have a Business background in school.

When I went online to see the schools I notice they have alot of different options. Vanilla MBA, Finance, Global Management, Marketing, Management…etc etc.

Since I do not have a business back ground I have a couple of questions.

First, if I get a MBA in say Finance does that pigeon hole me to doing only a specific job?

Second, does anyone have a good website that looks in depth about different career options with different MBA’s and salaries?

Or any other site that has a lot of information so I can make an informed choise. I have done about 2 days of just reading up on PHD programs an now want to look for info for Masters.

Thanks.
No, Vanilla MBA is not to be dismissive but to state a standard non-specialized MBA.

are accreted online schools such as capella and walden universitys respected in the business world? pt 2?

I mistakenly closed the other posting however i wanted more opinions so here is the question again. those of you who where unable to anwser because of my mistake, please forgive. the following question was presented before…

I am looking for a PhD program that would fit my busy workday; I have been pondering the loads of online. Universities that are available. Two things concern me first is the cost of these institutions which are high and also the reputation of these schools. Although some are accredited by one of the 6 recognized accreditation institutions, I wanted some opinion on the way these degrees are seen in the business and education communities, any help would be great help.

Online Versus Brick-And-Mortar Degrees (Business Phd/DBA)? Walden?

I’ve been looking at going back to school for an advanced degree in Business. I got my undergrad and my MBA from a respectable brick-and-mortar shools. I started looking at the online option because I’ve got no desire to quit my job (which most seem to require) and no desire to become a professor. I eventually settled on Walden. After doing some digging, they didn’t appear to be “sleazy” (which is the vibe I got from Phoenix / Capella). Most of the negative things I’ve read are about distance learning in general, and they appear just to be thrown in with the others because their a bit larger. Still, with the stigma, I’m a little skeptical about even getting started with them. Does anybody have any insight on this? As an alternative, I’ve been thinking about online programs pegged to a brick university. Is there a good place to look?

I’d appreciate it if none of the responses come from people who are affiliated with the schools I mentioned (incl. Walden). I’m trying to limit bias.

To teach business/ finance at the university level how important is the school you earned the PHD from?

I’m thinking of changing of careers to univeristy professor. I have a masters degree in finance from Golden Gate university. I have an undergraduate degree from a UC. I was thinking of trying for a PHD. How important is the school I earn the PHD from in regards to finding positions? For example if I went through an accredited but online based PHD program like would that still afford me the similar opportunities? I like the convenience of online work. I guess I’m basically asking if any accredited PHD program will do the trick or if it is only highly regarded insitutions are that marketable? I’m thinking of positions with cal state schools or similar schools.
